Born and raised on a small island in the Pacific Northwest Kristi Loved to draw and paint as a child. Her childhood dream was to illustrate childrenʻs books.
At the age of 21, she moved from her familiar island home in the Northwest to a very different one across the Pacific Ocean. When she found the quiet beach community of Kailua she knew she was home. The vivid colors, warm, contrasting light and tropical shapes and themes were her inspiration to take a simpler, but bolder approach with her art. Her work reflects her admiration for the art of hula, the children she teaches, and her love for the ocean and paddling.
Kristi realized her childhood dream of illustrating childrenʻs books in 2000 with her first book -Sharing Grandmaʻs Gift. In addition to her freelance work she has also been the art teacher at Ka`ōhao Elementary School in Kailua where she has shared her passion for art and inspired countless students since 2003.
I love sharing my story of perseverance and my passion of art with children. Through my teaching and my events as an illustrator, I hope to inspire them to always follow their dreams!
Nothing means more to me than my family. I am a proud mother of three creative children! I LOVED being able to take this photo with my youngest as he holds his first published childrenʻs graphic novel! We found our books for sale side by side at our local market Kalapawai, in Kailua.
